Big news! A new market is going to hit Poshmark on May 30. The “home” market really expands what sellers are able to list, but I know many of you have been against this from the start. I am open to exploring the new home poshmarket, and hope it allows sellers to earn more in their small business endeavors.
What do you think about the new market? I’d love to hear what you think!
I just bought an adorable Victoria’s Secret dress on Poshmark. I was super excited to receive it, but when I did there was a problem.. the dress was very short. I mean, I know VS sells sexy peekaboo stuff, but this wasn’t cute. I turned the hem over and sure enough, there dress had been hemmed.
When you sell a previously owned item online, it isn’t enough to just state the measurements. Body shapes differ greatly, so length is often not enough of an indicator (the booty takes some of that length) If it has been altered in any way, this needs to be addressed.
Of course, if you have thrifted items, you can’t really know what the original owner did.
How to spot alterations BEFORE you resell an item
1. Check the Hemline
One of the most common alterations is the hemline. An altered hem may have different colored thread than he rest of the garment, and may be missing finishing details.
2. Look at the color and quality of threads throughout the garment
It is rare for a seamstress to have an exact match in color and quality for all garment threads. For alterations where the stitching is hidden, this is especially common. In my Victoria’s Secret dress example, the thread used was a very thin white colored thread. The original thread is blue and much thicker.
3. Search for Stock Information Online
If you know the style name or number, you can search for more information about the original measurements online. I’ve found many items with detailed information on sizing and fabric that is super useful.
4. Try it on
Of course, the garment may not be in your size exactly, but if it is you can use your own perspective to help explain the fit. Many sellers will model for their own listings, and then explain how the fit is in more detail.
Taking the time to double checks your inventory will not only help you to avoid return cases, but you will also seem a more knowledgeable and reputable seller.

I finally reached my goal of becoming a Poshmark Ambassador! I ended up being a bit late in my goal of when I reached it because I always underestimate how much time it takes to list and share. Also, there was a couple of times where I made sales from my closet and that changed my stats.
One moment I would think I was about to hit another level on the Poshmark ambassador goal list, but then I would make sales and those stats would change! For example, I hit 50 listings, but then I would sell some things either on Poshmark, or on another platform and so I would need to delete those active listings, bringing me below 50.
Obviously, getting that small setback to my goal seemed frustrating at first, but the whole point of me aiming toward becoming a Poshmark ambassador was to make more sales. Regardless of whether I was hitting the status or not, I was doing what I set out to do. If it’s the journey makes that happen, that’s alright with me! The destination isn’t really what matters, after all.
Are you a Poshmark Ambassador? How long did it take you, and do you think it was worth the work?
I’ve been selling on Poshmark for a few weeks now, and one thing I am considering working towards is becoming an ambassador. At first, I didn’t give too much thought to it since I was only listing a few items, but now that I want to grow my closet I think it is something to work toward.
What is the Poshmark Ambassador Program?
The Poshmark ambassador program focuses heavily on the community goals of Poshmark. Along with listing and selling, users are asked to share listing for other Poshers. According to the Poshmark blog, ambassadors are expected to “set the tone” in the community, by keeping active and providing good customer service.
Why should I consider working toward the program?
Many Poshers ask if this program is worth it. The main reason to join is that you will be put into a suggested user rotation. This should help your Poshmark closet gain exposure. Some Poshers have claimed that they have fewer sales after joining the program, but since Poshmark makes a profit off each sale, it doesn’t make sense that they would hide listings.
Steps to Becoming a Poshmark Ambassador:
In order to achieve ambassador status, Poshers need to complete a list of minimum community tasks. These are:
A minimum of 5000 Community Shares and 5000 Self-Shares.
A minimum of 50 Available Listings
A minimum of 15 Sold Listings
Average Purchase Rating must be 4.5 stars or greater on average
Average Ship Time must be less than 3 days on average
You also have to give at least one love note, which means review a purchase you have through on Poshmark.
My Poshmark Ambassador Status:
Looking at my Posh Stats, I am currently 72% finished with the program requirements. I Still need to do a lot of community and self-closet sharing and list 25 more items in my closet (or more I suppose if I make some sales!). I don’t know how long this will take me, but I think trying to get it by the end of December is a decent goal. Wish me luck!
